Description
First edition of this treatise on military strategy by Joly de Maizeroy (1719-1780), a noble French officer: in his numerous works, Maizeroy is committed to a theorization of the art of war read as a science that modern armaments have not changed in the substance. Hence his admiration for the Ancients and his view of the great battles of history as models still valid for reflection on military strategy. These characteristics are evident in the Traité sur les stratagèmes permis à la guerre, with its analysis of the tales of the battles of Farsalo and Arbela, illustrated by two folded cards of the opposing sides.
