Description
Our volume collects three first editions of works by the Sicilian poet and writer Giovanni Antonio Di Giacomo, pseudonym Vann'Antò (1891-1960). Starting from poetic positions close to Pascoli and the crepuscolari with an attention to popular poetry, around 1913 he joined the Futurist movement, founding, among other things, the periodical "La Balza" in Ragusa. He left for the front as a volunteer in 1916, he lived the trench experience traumatically. Returning to Sicily, he distanced himself from the Futurist movement, approaching rather the symbolist trend poets and immersing himself in his own popular roots through the study of the Sicilian dialectal poetic tradition. The first work contained in our volume is the collection of verses and prose Il fante alto da terra, published by the Principato publishing house in 1932: a collection that is affected by the long gestation (some texts date back to the years of the Great War) in the combination of styles and different positions with respect to the experience of war. This is followed by La Baronessa di Carini published by D'Anna in 1958, a reinterpretation of the famous drama dear to Sicilian folklore. Game and fantasy, from 1956, Salvatore Sciascia publisher, is a study on popular poetry.
