Description
Fine example of the series of historical biographies published by the Goupil & C.ie house at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, illustrated by 41 full-page engravings, the first in color frontispiece. Edition of 1000 specimens, but ours is part of a limited edition of Cent exemplaires sur Papier des Manufactures Impériales du Japon compaciés d'une suite des planches tirées en bistre et numerotés à la presse de I à C (Exemplaire n. XXIX). The planches in the bistro are bound together with the planches in the volume. Our specimen is further enhanced by its illustrious provenance: as evidenced by the beautiful Ex Libris of Prince Constantin Radziwill, it comes in fact from the library of the Chateau d'Ermenonville.
